Making Math an Active Subject Workshop
Number sense can’t be taught by a textbook where often students must follow a rigid set of rules. Students need to explore numbers, visualize them in a variety of context and relate numbers in ways that are not traditional algorithms. Utilizing textbooks sometimes doesn't get the job done. Students needs to be involved in conversation. They need to see the math in our lived worlds. They need to explore tasks in which they are involved in the problem solving process. In this workshop, participants will examine what active math looks like in a classroom. Participants will be fully trained on Clothesline Math, Number Talk Images, and 3 Act tasks. Plenty of resources will be shared with the idea that materials could be used in the classroom the next day.
How to Use Clothesline Math in Your Classroom
Have you been curious about Clothesline Math, but not sure how to implement it in your classroom? If your answer is yes, then this mini-workshop will answer all your questions. Your students will love to explore how numbers work and relate to one another while using this interactive, kinesthetic routine.
In this mini workshop, we will start by investigating what Clothesline Math is and how it can help your students. We will review how to plan for a Clothesline Math lesson as well as the preparations needed for the lesson. We will explore all the mathematical content that Clothesline Math can assist with including whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percents. And finally, we will end our workshop with plenty of resources.
